Layered lighting is essential in any well designed space yet so often overlooked. I have seen countless rooms with one overhead pendant as the only source of light which really isn’t enough, even in a small room. Besides the usefulness of providing much needed light in different parts of a room, various points of light create ambience and cosiness, and having lighting at different levels adds dimension and visual interest; it can completely transform a room. A beautiful example is the living room of Malcolm Begg below:
The cabinet lighting at the top of the shelves creates a gorgeous wash of light coming down the shelves. In addition, this corner has 3 other sources of light: 2 table lamps on the shelves and one on the side table next to the armchair, all in different styles. As a result, this room has a beautiful relaxing atmosphere.
If you have a room that could do with more lighting, table lamps are an easy and cost effective solution. And with so many designs on the market, they’re also a great way to add a bit of style and personality to your side table, shelves, chest of drawers, sideboard or desk.
Recently, lights.co.uk got in touch with me to check out their products, and I’m hugely impressed by their enormous range, particularly how many gorgeous options they have that are very pocket friendly. I know how much you guys love beautiful yet bargainous homewares, so I’ve picked some of my favourite lamps from lights.co.uk, as well as from other lovely stores, to create this roundup of lamps that are all £50 and under. You’re welcome. 🙂

1. Chester metal tripod lamp / 2. Green marble block lamp / 3. Vico pink concrete lamp / 4. Capsule table lamp / 5. Albin concrete and glass lamp / 6. Binari black and gold lamp / 7. Bodhi brass table lamp / 8. Penelope retro lamp / 9. Tarbes copper cage lamp / 10. Terrazzo table lamp / 11. Jonas copper wire table lamp / 12. Kensington desk lamp / 13. Henley angled brass desk lamp / 14. Ribbon metal table lamp / 15. Puristic marble table lamp
So which is your favourite from these? I’ve actually found it impossible to pick just one favourite. I already have the beautifully shaped wire lamp (11) on my dining room shelves (I’ve sprayed it gold), and I really would take all the other 14 lamps for my home if I could! The metal tripod lamp (1) would look fantastic on my husband’s desk. The green marble block lamp (2) and the concrete + glass lamp (5) would bring a gorgeous slice of industrial glam to a space. I love the simplicity of pink concrete, terrazzo and marble lamp bases which show off the bare bulbs (3, 10, 15); these lamps give you the opportunity to use a decorative filament or mirror bulb. The retro shapes of the capsule lamp (4) and Penelope lamp (8) are delightful, and the iconic ribbon metal lamp (14) never fails to impress. The adjustable task lamps (6, 12, 13) are great not just for desks but also for highlighting something pretty on a dresser. The square Bodhi brass lamp (7) would make a gorgeous objet d’art on a styled shelf even when not switched on. The copper cage lamp (9) is very versatile as you can have it on top of a stack of books/magazines, on a shelf or even hang it off a bracket or branch.
All the sites in this roundup have many more lovely budget-friendly lighting options so do check them out if you’re looking for a new light or two.
